Treasure Island is an artificial island, created between 1936 and 1937. During World War II, it became a Naval Base. It was decommissioned in 1996, but is still owned by the Navy.

Five days a week, I leave the fog of the Sunset, cross half of the bay bridge and sit at a desk on the second floor of a Treasure Island office building. Before walking inside, the towering flag (above) is the last thing I see. After ten and a half hours of spread sheets and purchase orders, I leave. The skyline (below) is the first thing I see.
